HARAY AT MKUDESHET LI
"With this ring you are consecrated to me according to the teachings of Moses and the laws of Israel."
This expression is of the prayer that is said in a wedding ceremony during the first part, called Kedushin or Betrothal. Mystically, the Kedushin is a reenactment of what had transpired between G-d and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai with the revelation of Torah.
The intertwined silver rings represent two souls coming together against the backdrop of the mountain. The reds and purples represent G-d and Moses respectively, with the ten red drips, alluding to the commandments, coming down the mountain.
The circles at the bottom of the painting, symbolize the sheva berachot (seven blessings) said in the second half of the ceremony as well as the seven times the bride encircles her husband.
The vibrant colors, juxtaposed at the top of the painting, send the message that a Jewish wedding is as multifaceted as a rich tapestry woven from threads of religious, cultural, legal, historical and mystical significance. The golden shechina (feminine presence of Adonai) shines brightly in the foreground.
