this is the first painting of a subseries of marlene's hebrew series called "dvarim."
dvar means a word. this word "vayikrah" is the name of the third book of Moses and the name of the first portion of this book.
the letter on the left is purposely smaller to show moses' humility.
covert symbolism: red is god. the image of the torah (with pomegranates atop) is next to god with his words traveling through the image.
this painting was designed for a bar mitzvah student, hence the clean slate on the right side of the painting. his hebrew name is shmuel...bibilically, shmuel was the last of our judges (allusion of scales) and the first prophet to share his dvarim from god in the land of israel.
the red column emanatinb for the letter "yud" represents the ten commandments, 10 being the numerical equivalent for that letter.
